Cosmetic dentistry implants
During the course of daily practice cosmetic dentistry also cooperates dental implantology.
In dental terminology „red esthetics” means the esthetic appearence of the gum. To achieve the right appearence dental implantology is applied.
Recreating missing soft tissues around implant supported crown is a very complex question. In most cases the additional problem of the absence of more or less bone around the missing tooth has to be solved.
If we don't replace the missing amount of bone the final crown will be higher and longer than the adjacent teeth.
Sometimes it is enough to put artificial bone replacement material around the implant and cover it with a membrain.
If a bigger part of the bone is missing the dental specialist has to transplant a bone block. The donor part is usually from the back part of the mandible. The donor part will heal in 2-3 months with new bone. The bone block is fixed with special screws at the recipient area. After 3-5 months the transplanted bone fuses with the recipient one. This new bone structure allows the implant inplacement and recreats the original anatomic structures around the crown. All cases are individual, regarding bone and gum replacement, and healing time.
The other connection between cosmetic dentistry and dental implantology are what dental terminology calls „white eshtetics”. This covers the making of lifelike crowns that even professionals cannot distinguish from the natural tooth from 20cm.
Metal free crowns (pressed ceramic, e.g. Empress or Zirconia based metal free crowns) can fulfill this requirement. The main advantage of these technolgies is that these don't contain metal in the core of the crown. The metal blocks light go through therefore in some light conditions the light reflection of the new crown will be slightly different than of the adjacent teeth.
The core of the metal free crowns is made of ceramics that lets light go through. This is the cause of the esthetic difference.
The other problem is the abutment of the dental implant. Normally a dental abutment made of titanium (metal) that blocks the light in the visible area. As a solution we can make an individual metal free abutment made of zirkonia. This fits with the metal free crowns. There is no sense of mixing metal abutments with metal free crowns and the other way around. Both techniques are reliable, esthetic, but ther is a slight difference in the final appearence.
